The Texas Elder Justice Coalition recognizes the Honorable Judge Veronica Vasquez for achievements related to raising awareness of financial exploitation of older Texans
San Antonio, TX — Bexar County Probate Court 2 Judge Veronica Vasquez will receive the 2025 Texas Elder Justice Coalition Achievement Award, which honors outstanding leaders who advance the safety, dignity, and rights of older Texans, at the Texas Elder Justice Coalition Summit.
The honor recognizes Judge Vasquez’s unwavering commitment to protecting older Texans from financial exploitation and advancing justice for the state’s most targeted residents.
“Judge Vasquez’s work has resonated well beyond the bench,” said Dana Hoffman, Texas Elder Justice Coalition Coordinator, in announcing the award. “Through her policy efforts, community outreach, and collaboration with elder justice partners, she has transformed the way financial exploitation of older adults is addressed in Texas.”
Judge Vasquez was selected for her tireless advocacy, impactful courtroom leadership, and dedication to meaningful reform that prevents harm and safeguards financial security for aging Texans. Her contributions to elder justice in Texas include co-founding the Bexar County Elder Abuse and Exploitation Task Force in 2019. This multidisciplinary coalition unites law enforcement, Adult Protective Services, financial institutions, and community service providers in innovative, collaborative strategies to enhance senior protection and identify systemic vulnerabilities.
The Task Force’s vital work directly informed Judge Vasquez’s successful advocacy—alongside Senator José Menéndez—for SB576. This legislation strengthened the Texas Penal Code, imposing stricter penalties on those who exploit vulnerable elders. She also collaborated with the City of San Antonio to implement a policy mandating elder abuse and exploitation identification training for city employees.
The award presentation will take place during the 2025 Texas Elder Justice Coalition Summit, a gathering of frontline professionals confronting the crisis of elder fraud and financial exploitation.
The Texas Elder Justice Coalition
The Texas Elder Justice Coalition is a network of multidisciplinary professionals working to end financial exploitation of older adults in Texas through education, advocacy, accountability, and collaboration to promote dignity and financial security in aging. The Coalition was launched by Guardianship Services, Inc. and Texas Healthy at Home with funding from the National Center for State and Tribal Elder Justice.
